Origin

Historically, it is noted that Schnauzers were bred all the way back to the Middle Ages. The standard schnauzer was created from a cross between gray spitzes and black poodles. The larger dog of the breed was popular during World War 1 and was employed as messenger and police animals.

Miniature Schnauzers were bred during the 1800s and was cross-bred between the Affenpincher and Standard Schnauzers.

This breed did not come from the British Isles yet is recognized by the AKC.

When full-grown the breed will stand 12-14 inches tall and have a weight from 10-15 pounds. Dark deep-set eyes, high ears that are cropped or uncropped, and a rectangular-shaped head flat back, cat-like feet, and an erect tail are their most prominent features.

The Mini Schnauzer has a salt and pepper coat that is wiry on the outside and thick underneath its small body. Face hair is long on its chin forming its eyebrows and beard. This is a low shedding dog.
