The Shorkie Tzu is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Shih Tzu and the Yorkshire Terrier. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
This toy designer breed is commonly known by the following names: Shorkie, Yorkietzu, Yoshi, Shorkie Tzu mix, Shih Tzu Yorkie mix.
The Shorkie is a Toy Breed that originated with us 18 years ago here in the United States. Shorkie Puppies are known for their playful and sweet natured temperament.
The Shorkie puppies can be very small. The Teacup Shokie is not an accepted term with Shorkie Club Of America. The term "TEACUP" is merely an adjective to describe a smaller than standard size of the Shorkie breed. The standard size is up to 4-11 lbs. The Again "TEACUP" this is simply a term used to describe a Shorkie that has been bred to be smaller than standard size.
The Shorkie is probably the most popular of all the designer mix breeds. Now that we have founded the Shorkie Club of America we are on our way to establishing the Shorkie as a breed of its own. The Shorkie breed is known for it's different color coats. Some of the colors that they can have are as follows: The black and tan, gold with black mask, solid gold, solid red, party spotted colors of gold and white or black and white, and even chocolate
Some owners allow their Shorkie coat to grow very long this is possible because both the Yorkie and Shih Tzu are non-shedding long coat breeds. More owners give their Shorkie a short puppy cut instead of going thru all the work of keeping the coat brushed and free of tangles . A short coat will also make your Shorkie look like a puppy their whole life.
The temperament or personality of your Shorkie will depend on a variety of factors, but will be similr to that of the Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier.
Shorkie's are expected to live around 14-19 years.
