French Bulldog Puppies

Origins

In the early 19th Century lace-makers in Nottingham, England selectively bred the early bulldog for a small or "toy" bulldog, specifically for use as a companion. During the Industrial Revolution many lace-makers were displaced and moved to France with their new bulldog companions. Hence, the "toy" bulldogs became popular in France and were seen by the wealthy Americans who travelled to France during this era. Americans began to refer to these dogs as the French bulldog in the late 1800's. The term French Bulldog has stuck since that time.

Is the French Bulldog the Right Breed for You?

French bulldogs are suited for the indoors, however they do require air conditioning in warm weather. The main function of the french bulldog is to provide love and attention to their owner as they were bred to be companions thus, Frenchies do require close contact with humans. They don't require much exercise or grooming which makes them greatly suited to seniors or minimally active people, however they should be walked at least once a day to optimize their long term health. They have a compromised breathing system which makes them unable to regulate their body temperature well. When walking or running during hot or humid weather, owners should be very careful to moderate their activities with water and a cool place to rest as they are prone to heat stroke.

French bulldogs are a patient and sweet breed with their owners, especially with children. This breed can easily live with other pets when properly executed.
